Modest Islamic Clothing Fashion Industry is booming at Great Pace

New York Fashion Week showcased designers who are making modest Islamic clothing with more cover than you would usually see on the catwalk. Many women in the fashion industry choose to dress modestly for religious reasons. Major stores and secular shoppers have started selecting styles that were once only worn by Muslim women.

Modest fashion is more than just a hijab. It’s not just something that is trending for the Muslim fashion consumer but also for the general consumers. Social media has played a huge role in pushing the trend of modest clothing. The most recent data suggests it’s an industry already worth more than $250 billion a year and that’s expected to grow to more than $370 billion by 2022.

Biggest Brands of Modest Fashion

Big American brands have taken note of this modest fashion trend. Nike has created for athletes; American Eagle has made a denim hijab and Sports Illustrated magazine made history by featuring a model in a burkini. But now modesty is spreading to bigger fashion houses and non-Muslims. The upcoming trends in the modest fashion industry will be an opportunity for people who have traditionally worn modest fashion.

All these bigger brands like H&M, Dolce Gabbana, Mango, Zara, etc. are trying to cater to the Muslim customers and they are seeing Muslim women as an untapped market because a majority of their needs are not being meant and they do have quite a bit of purchasing power. All these companies are realizing that they missed out on a lot of money because if they would have just designed their clothes or some of their clothes to be a bit more modest, it would make a lot of profit off of that. There are brands out there that do cater to modest fashion consumers but most of them have higher-priced items. The modest fashion industry is here to stay which is why a lot of big and popular brands like Mango, Zara, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, and so on have come up with their very own line of modest clothing.

Muslim Modest Clothing created for Women belonging to all religion

Muslim women are the primary target market but apart from them, Catholics and Jews also wear modest dresses. Aside from these people, some just want to wear modestly without any religious reason. Islam is the largest religion in the world and the followers of it are called Muslims. Around 65% of Muslims are under the age of 35 years. The spending power of this segment of society is estimated to be around $400 billion. The modest fashion industry is still in the early stage and the growth opportunity is limitless.
