Burkini - The Islamic Dress to liberate Islamic Women

The new trend towards modest swimwear provides Muslim women with options for dressing for certain summertime activities--whether at the beach or home watching TV by themselves!

Is Burkini a symbol for Liberation?

Recently, the Burkini has been seen as a symbol of liberation and empowerment for Muslim women who wish to enjoy the beach without exposing too much skin. In light of France's ban on the "burkini," many Muslims have felt that they are being portrayed as oppressive. The Burkini is a full-body swimsuit covering the body from head to toe, with slits for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Muslims of all ages can wear the garment, and it does not hinder swimming or everyday movement in the water. It was first created by a Muslim woman Aheda Zanetti in 2004 as a means for Muslim women to participate in sports while still upholding their faith.

In recent years, Western companies have begun marketing modest swimwear or "Islamic clothing" as a way of pushing back against Islamophobia and empowering Muslim women. H&M released an ad showing a Muslim woman wearing a burkini while enjoying herself at the beach surrounded by people from different backgrounds, including majority-Muslim countries.

Women's images are constantly displayed in media; however, these images are usually negative when it comes to Islam. The Burkini might be one way Muslim women can reclaim their bodies and redefine what modesty means to them.

Conclusion

In light of recent events, the Burkini has been a hot topic of conversation. In this article, we'll explore the history of the Burkini and the latest trends in modest swimwear. Aheda Zanetti created the modern Burkini in 2004 after a request from a Muslim woman who wanted a way to swim "modestly." Zanetti designed a two-piece, full-coverage swimsuit to allow women to enjoy the beach and pool without exposing their skin. This new trend for modest swimwear is becoming more and more popular as many women feel like it's finally a way for them to enjoy the beach and other water activities as they please.
